A few feet more

Ok, tonight featured a 1.9 miler. I ran most of it, probably only walked 1/4 of a mile, max.
About 1/3 of a mile in, along Tidwell, of all places, it struck me how quiet it was next to the road. There was a lull in the traffic, and there was just... silence. It was odd. (Like a 7). It also struck me how constantly loud I remember Memorial Park being, with what my mind's ear remembers as constant traffic all around the jogging path.
That'll probably get fixed next time I run in Memorial.

It wasn't a terrible run, as far as runs go. Tomorrow, no run. Thursday, probably a mile in the morning, otherwise a longish run Friday.

Quite possibly, the worst ever

That mile, above almost all miles I've ever run, was the worst.
The good news is that the knee doesn't hurt.
The bad news is that just about everything else does. My right side, just below the ribs. My left side, just above the hip. My back, right at the small of the back. The back of my left knee. My right and left shoulders (?).

Ugh.

Other than that, a good mile.

Even better news, my 1 mile route is 1.05 miles.

Weekend update

So, the knee was bothering me yesterday. I opted to rest it for the day and maybe take the bike out in the evening. Well, it rained, so I chalked up a day of rest.
Since I didn't stretch the knee out yesterday, I decided to give it another day today and take the bike out. Same 12 mile route (the 14 mile route includes a pair of wicked climbs on TC Jester over the railroad tracks, maybe next week) as last week, but the stats are much more improved. I think the heart and lungs are getting into the game. I might be able to pull this marathon thing off yet.

Stats:
12.05 miles
25mph max (wind and gravity assisted)
21.5mph max (on the flat, against the wind)
Time: 0:47:09
Average speed: 15.3mph

The wind was in my face going out, and it was brutal. Yahoo says it's coming out of the SE at 14mph. I'm believing it. The good part about an out-and-back is that the wind is only in your face for 1/2 of the ride. The ride home was niiiice.

No run today

Today is a day of rest. Plus, I have classes and I'm just a little tired.

For lunch, though, I did have a double serving of poison. Yum. (Tortino's Pizza, which contains absolutely no nutritional value and very little food)

Tonight I'll fix the old bike tire and prepare for tomorrow's run. Maybe I'll get in a longer run on Saturday--something in the variety of 2 - 5 miles.

Morning run in the books

Add another mile to the tally.
Not a bad run, as far as runs go. Just a quick mile, but I felt strong through the whole thing.
I'm glad the meatball sub (6 inches, thank you) didn't stick with me this morning.

Now, time for breakfast.

It was a cool evening

Yea, cool for Houston. "Only" 88 degrees... at 8:45 pm.

So, I didn't want to run tonight. But I did anyway. I guess I'm glad I did. I guess that counts as a win.
I got in about a mile and a half (according to Google Earth) and got it in with no stops. That certainly counts as a win.
My bike has a flat. What the hell is up with that? I don't remember hitting any bumps Saturday eve, but I must have pinched it somewhere. Probably on the driveway.

Lunch was a chicken salad at LaMadeline's, but I'm still fat. I need to get that tire fixed pronto. That's the only way I can think of to work off the blubber--I'm more likely to ride 200 miles in 2 months than run 200 miles in 2 months. Think I may even ride it to the session meeting tomorrow.

This morning's run

Got my gear together for a "first thing in the morning" run last night.
Set the alarm, had the thing all planned out.

Then decided to sleep in.

Sigh... maybe tonight.

It begins?

July 11, I hit my first Run the Woodlands event since 2006.
Not at all a memorable 5k event.

Something like 36 minutes. I flat out ran out of gas. I couldn't catch the guy in front of me on the last stretch. I actually had to stop and catch air in the last 50 meters.

Pretty pathetic.

The high points: I ran the first mile, non-stop, and maybe half of the second mile.
I did not earn the "lampre rouge", or red light, as in the back end of the train. I have never won that particular prize and have no intention of doing so.
I won a cool visor.

Sigh.

In the evening I got out on the bike and took in 12 beautiful miles on the bike. Average speed of 14 mph, max of 25, total time 50:26. When I got home, I was gassed, but in a good way.
After I caught my breath I sat down in the shower to cool off.
No serious cramping. No serious problems. I AM dragging around 20lbs too many. I need to take care of that. The cycling will help with that.

Where'd it go?

Ok, if you want to find all the former rantings and ravings, go to www.screamatthewind.blogspot.com

This space will hereby be dedicated to my endurance training.

Yes, as of right now I'm probably back in training.

Probably.

New look, new content

Yes, I've changed the look, content, and focus.
I'm going to start riding and running more. We'll see where it goes from there.
